RSC Chair Renate Behrens would like to thank RDA Board member Judith Cannan and her Library of Congress colleagues for hosting the RSC Meeting in November.

Are you interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cataloging? Do you wonder how to streamline the cataloging process by automating repetitive tasks and ensuring consistency in metadata creation?  What is the impact, including potential uses and threats, of AI presents in the production of RDA? 

Ed Jones, a serials authority in the field and a major contributor to the 3R Project, here updates his authoritative text. Reflecting the new modelling for serials introduced by IFLA’s Library Reference Model in the most recent revisions to RDA, this up-to-date resource is an important tool for day-to-day practice as well as a reference manual for unusual or difficult cases. 

The Minutes of the RSC Meeting in July (RSC/Minutes/469-482) are available on the RSC website and, with permanent URI, on ALAIR. 

The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa has announced that beginning August 1, 2024, they are using the Official RDA Toolkit to describe print and digital monographs and are aiming to describe all formats using the Official RDA Toolkit by the end of this year. 

The July 2024 release is a small one. The only significant editorial change to report is the revision to the data provenance instructions in Guidance. There were, as usual, corrections to typos, bad links and other minor issues, as well as the addition of new examples.

Members of the RSC would like to add their congratulations to those of the American library community on the award of the Margaret Mann Citation to Robert Maxwell, who, amongst his many roles is the North American Representative to the RSC. 

It is three weeks until the RSC's next Public Session, and we hope that you will be interested to attend as an observer.

As well as our usual updates, we will be discussing the latest proposal from the Religions in RDA Working Group, RSC/ReligionsWG/2024/1.

ALA Publishing, acting on behalf of the copyright holders of RDA: Description and Access has signed an agreement with the Association of Ibero-American States for the Development of the National Libraries of Ibero-America (ABINIA) for a Spanish language translation of the official RDA Toolkit.

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) is delighted that its Chair, Renate Behrens, has been awarded the IFLA Scroll of Appreciation at the IFLA General Assembly in the Hague today (20 June).
