6 Tips for Teaching the New RDA Toolkit

Effective January 1, 2022, list prices for annual institutional subscriptions to RDA Toolkit - purchased directly through the ALA or the RDA Toolkit website - will range from $197 USD (for 1 user) to $167 USD (for 20 or more users). Our full 2022 list pricing follows:
1 user: $197 USD per user
2 to 4 users: $189 USD per user
5 to 9 users: $186 USD per user
10 to 14 users: $180 USD per user
15 to 19 users: $174 USD per user
20+ users: $167 USD per user

A new release of the beta RDA Toolkit was published on September 16th. The release introduces new features and functionality as well as some relocating of RDA content. For a full explanation of notable changes to the RDA text see Notes on the September 16, 2020 RDA Toolkit Release.
The North American RDA Committee, also known as NARDAC, hosted online forum on Monday, August 3rd at 3 pm EDT. The forum was free to all and can now be experienced on our YouTube page. We have also made slides from the forum available to all.
As we anticipate the start of the RDA Lab Series on Tuesday, June 30th, we thought you’d like to virtually meet its presenter a little early. Kate James, a cataloging expert and former RDA Steering Committee Examples Editor, tells us about herself and her goals for the upcoming webinars in this feature Q&A. As we move closer to the completion of the 3R Project and the December switchover of the beta site, we would like to reinforce our continued commitment to collecting community feedback on the redesigned RDA Toolkit, and our support service during this period of transition. James Hennelly, director of RDA Toolkit, will host a free webinar on December 19th. He will review recent updates to the Toolkit and preview some changes that will appear in the next year. Half the allotted time will be held open for questions from attendees. The webinar will be recorded and posted to the RDA Toolkit YouTube channel.

As more libraries and cataloguing communities worldwide signal an intent to adopt the official RDA Toolkit within the next three years, including the international Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), you too can get ready for the transition. This full-day hands-on workshop led by active PCC and RDA Steering Committee members will teach cataloguers how to read and apply instructions in the official RDA Toolkit, look up RDA-to-MARC mappings, and catalogue a sample item from start to finish.
A new release was posted to RDA Toolkit last week. The September 2023 release is a minor one in terms of changes to the English text (corrections to typos and formatting, changes for consistency, and fixes of broken links), but there are two significant updates – the introduction of a new alternative Guidance menu and completion of the French language translation of official RDA.
