Community Review: Changes in Definition of engraver agent, etc.
Observers at the RSC Public Session on 28 July may recall that the RSC approved the addition of terms for wood engraver, etc. and asked Translations Team Liaison Officer Szabolcs Dancs (pictured) to prepare a proposal to change the definition of engraver agent, etc. to make it clear that it is for intaglio techniques.
This distinction is standard in Historical and Descriptive Bibliography, and rare books specialists understand it implicitly. However, with the addition of terms covering wood engraver which is a relief technique, the RSC accepted the suggestion set out in RSC/TranslationsTLO/2026/2/NARDAC that it would be helpful to redefine engraver agent, etc.
All changes to elements require community review, and we will be very happy to receive input from the wider RDA cataloguing community on RSC/TranslationsTLO/2026/3 -- Proposal to Revise engraver agent, etc.
