New Wider Community Engagement Officer, Getaneh Alemu

We are delighted to be starting 2026 with our new Wider Community Engagement Officer (WCEO), Getaneh Alemu, in place. He has previously been serving as WCEO Elect, September - December 2025.

The WCEO is part of the RSC Executive Committee, contributing to the development and promotion of RDA, and a voting member of the RSC. Based at Solent University in Southampton, Getaneh is the latest in a long line of UK-based cataloguing professionals and theorists to join the RSC (and before it the JSC) and brings with him an exceptional research background specialising in metadata in the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) sector.

The WCEO is also the first point of contact for members of the wider RDA cataloguing community who do not yet have Regional Representatives (i.e. outside Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and Oceania).

Getaneh is starting the New Year in his native Ethiopia. Although there as part of his day job, working on a research project, he will also be very happy to hear from any colleagues nearby who are interested in finding out more about RDA or with feedback on the latest proposals and discussion paper for the January RSC Meeting. You can get in touch with him at getaneh@rdatoolkit.org

Happy New Year to Getaneh and to everyone in the wider RDA cataloguing community he represents.
