Citation Numbering Arrives

Citation numbering has been added to the beta site in response to a user need to reference RDA passages in print materials and other non-digital communications.

The format for these numbers is XX.XX.XX.XX. The numbers are random, permanent, and searchable.

Numbers will be accessible from the popup tool bar. Simply highlight text for which you want a citation number. This will bring up the popup toolbar.

Getting a Handle on the New RDA Toolkit

On April 30, there will be a major update to the RDA Toolkit BETA site that will include a stabilized version of the English test as well as added and improved functionality to the BETA site. A detailed announcement about this release is coming. However, join us on May 10 for a free 90-minute webinar that will review the impact of the April 30 update. You'll learn about the new entities and concepts that have emerged from the IFLA Library Reference Model and the restructuring of the RDA standard. You'll also be provided with a demo of the new BETA site's functionality and features.

RDA Colloquium in Mexico City

An international group of librarians met in Mexico City earlier this month to discuss RDA and its future in Latin America. The 1er Coloquio sobre RDA en América Latina: Retos de la implementación del nuevo RDA Toolkit en las bibliotecas de América Latina (First Colloquium on RDA in Latin America: Challenges of Implementing the new RDA Toolkit in Latin American Libraries) was held at the Biblioteca Nacional de México and the included presentations by cataloging leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and of course Mexico.

What's New with the Beta Site

This week a new release was published to the RDA Toolkit beta site. The release included a wide range of changes to RDA content--corrections to typos and format issues, edits for consistency and clarity, as well as additions of new or further developed text. This release builds upon the August release and includes several improvements on the site functionality, but the beta site remains under development and not authorized for use in cataloging work.

Next Release to the RDA Toolkit Beta Site

The next release to the RDA Toolkit beta site was expected to be ready in late September. However, the release will be delayed to October 9th in order to include a substantial update to the MARC 21 mapping, in both content and display. The display change will include organizing the mappings into separate ordered lists for bibliographic and authority mappings. These lists, which can be quite long in some instances, will be hidden to prevent excessive scrolling. The lists can be opened with a single click.

Other highlights to the October 9th release include...
