RSC/ExamplesEditor/2026/1 Ready for Community Consultation
RDA Examples Editor Jessica Grzegorski (pictured) has introduced a proposal on which feedback is requested ahead of the Public Session of the RSC in July.
The proposal recommends an amendment to the preferred order of recording sources for early printed resources. As Jessica puts it, "Because catalogers who use DCRMR do so in tandem with Official RDA, it would be beneficial for the order of preference of recording sources for early printed resources to align in both standards." She goes on to highlight that "it is not the aim of this proposal to copy the order of preference verbatim from DCRMR. Rather, it is to mitigate confusion by reordering the existing text of the condition option in RDA to align with the order of preference in DCRMR."
It is important to note that use of the option is not prescriptive. The RSC is always mindful of internationalisation, and options are one of the ways that cataloguers are provided with choices that align with their needs. In researching the proposal, there was no evidence of a deliberate move away from the instructions in Original RDA, based on practice outside the DCRM cataloguing community or otherwise. With the countdown clock starting soon, Jessica hopes that her recommendation in this proposal will allow for an easy transition for special collections cataloguers from Original to Official RDA.
