ALA Publishing, acting on the behalf of the Copyright Holders of RDA: Resource Description and Access, has signed an agreement with Federação Brasileira de Associações de Bibliotecários (FEBAB) in which the São Paulo-based organization will be responsible for the translation of the Portuguese-language version of the cataloguing, RDA: Resource Description and Access. FEBAB will also serve the distributor for RDA Toolkit subscriptions in Brazil and the Portuguese language translations of official RDA print products.

The Portuguese translation, once it is completed, will be available online through the subscription site RDA Toolkit.

FEBAB is the Brazilian Federation of Library Associations, Information Scientists and Institutions. For 63 years FEBAB has been advocating for the education of professionals and for more and better libraries in Brazil. It consists of 17 library associations, an Executive Board, and a number of working wroups and commissions. It is responsible for the managment of the Brazilian Congress of Library Science and Documentation, the most important Congress in the area.

RDA is a flexible standard for recording bibliographic metadata and has the potential to serve as a basis for the international exchange of bibliographic metadata across global networks. RDA’s content has been developed in a collaborative process led by the international RDA Steering Committee (RSC). The project is overseen by the RDA Board, an international entity comprised of representatives of six global regions, the copyright holders, and the RSC. The RDA copyright is jointly held by the American Library Association (ALA), Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA), and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP, UK)—through its imprint Facet Publishing.
