Register Now: RDA Implementation Workshop on 19 November

RSC Examples Editor Jessica Grzegorski (pictured) and Education and Orientation Officer Elisa Sze are looking forward to welcoming participants to a free online workshop on Training and Examples for Official RDA on Thursday 19 November at 19:00 - 21:00 UTC (There is a handy time converter here).

Over 250 people have signed up already, for a programme which will share real-world practical experience.

  • Michaela Edelmann from the DNB (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek) will present on the development of German language RDA examples for the DACH (Germany (D), Austria (A), Switzerland (CH)) Region. (The Implementing Official RDA webpage links to earlier presentations on the DACH implementation in general, but this presentation will focus on the creation of examples for the DACH Manual)
  • El Grupo RDA México will share their experience training their cataloguers. (Serie Conceptos RDA is well attended and builds on Mexico's long tradition in RDA cataloguing to get ready for Official RDA)
  • Keith Knop will share learnings from the training he has provided. The Music Library Association (the US branch of  IAML (the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres)) makes Policy Statements available in the RDA Toolkit and has been active in training for music cataloguing in Official RDA

Jessica will also provide an overview of the process for creating and reviewing examples, and is keen for participants to leave with the message that it is possible to translate examples from the English language but it is equally possible for language communities to create their own examples for use in their translation of RDA.

Most importantly, there will be plenty of opportunity for participants to ask questions.

With the November RSC Public Session taken up by discussion of proposals, we hope that this outreach session will prove popular. As usual, a recording will be available after the event on the RDA Toolkit YouTube Channel.

If you are looking for resources on Official RDA Implementation, you may also be interested in the recent online training for African cataloguers (Part 1 | Part 2), the recording of RDA in Europe (and the rest of the world), and the resources in our Learning Resources and Implementing Official RDA webpages, as well as those provided Regionally (Europe | Latin America and the Caribbean | North America | Oceania) - most recently ORDAC's webinars led by Bridget Jennings. Members of the RSC recently contributed articles for the Countdown Clock year to Open Access journal Catalogue & Index.

FREE, but registration required. Register here.

Notes: This training and outreach event is part of the RSC November Meeting, for which there is also a Public Session on 17 November. The RDA Secretary will issue the usual call for observers for the Public Session at the beginning of November. This is the second call for participants for the workshop. The first call is here.
