Marcell Ottó Ormándy is Standards Librarian at the National Széchényi Library (NSZL) of Hungary in the Office for Library Standards, where he’s responsible for translating and managing ISO and Hungarian library standards. At his NSZL position he also works as a copyeditor and typesetter for the publications of the Hungarian Library Institute. He has previously worked as a retrospective cataloguer on a collection that contains many Central European, Russian and other Cyrillic materials, from the 19th and 20th centuries.

He recently joined the Hungarian Working Group for RDA (RDA-HU), and has been working on the Hungarian translation since June 2025. He teaches an introductory course about web semantics at the Hungarian Library Institute. He is an editor of Wikipedia and its semantic database, Wikidata.

Marcell has two bachelor's degrees in International Relations, and Library and Information Science, as well as a master's degree in European Studies. His main research areas are the rule of law, transparency and the right of access to documents, but he has an ardent interest in sociology and linguistics. He speaks Hungarian, English, and Slovak fluently, but his studies in Latin, stylistics and etymology provide him with a framework for terminological research, to a lesser degree, across many European languages.

Marcell is a copyeditor and editor of the of the Central European Library and Information Science Review (CELISR), a science journal published jointly by the Hungarian Library Institute and the National Technical Information Centre and Library at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He typesets for the CeLISR Books series, as well as some publications of the Association of Hungarian Librarians, of which he is a member. He is also a member of Mensa HungarIQa, Mensa International, and the Hungarian Wikimedia Association. In his free time, he plays video games and tinkers with Linux applications and Docker containers, such an interactive cocktail database for his home bar.

Marcell was appointed as Translations Team Liaison Officer Elect in September 2026. He will succeed Szabolcs Dancs as Translations Team Liaison Officer and Chair of the Translations Working Group on 1 January 2027.
