RDA Toolkit Release - April 11, 2017

RDA Toolkit Release - April 11, 2017

RDA Toolkit

A new release of RDA Toolkit will be published on April 11, 2017. When there is a new release for RDA Toolkit, it is typically made on the second Tuesday of the month. Releases typically contain changes to content and metadata, enhancements to RDA Toolkit functionality, and fixes to existing bugs. You can subscribe to our RSS development feed to get notification of releases. The details of the April release follow.

Content Updates

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) issued an update to the content of RDA: Resource Description and Access that is included in this release. The update contains approved proposals from the November 2016 RSC meeting. The details of the changes are available through the RDA Update History section found at the bottom of the RDA tab in RDA Toolkit. Those changes are also available in the “Sec final” versions of the proposals posted on the RSC web site. Initially this update appears only in the original English version of RDA; the update will be applied to the translations of RDA in subsequent releases. However, the April 2017 release includes other revisions and fixes to the Finnish, French, and Italian translations of RDA. The release contains Fast Track changes to RDA. These minor changes and corrections are listed in RSC/Sec/7. The release includes revisions and updates to the MARC/RDA bibliographic mappings in English. Also included are revisions to British Library Policy Statements (BL PS), policy statements from Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), Library of Congress-Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Statements (LC-PCC PS), Music Library Association Best Practices (MLA BP), National Library of Australia Policy Statements (NLA PS), and Finnish policy statements known as Suomalaisten kirjastojen linjaukset (SKL). A complete list of the revised LC-PCC PSs is available on the Library of Congress website.

Development Updates

The April release will see the debut of the Catalan translation of RDA which was prepared by the Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya. The Catalan translation is accessible to all with a subscription to RDA Toolkit. Users whose browser language preference is set to Catalan will be automatically logged into the Catalan version of RDA. Users may also log into to their profiles and set Catalan as their preferred language. The translation is complete through the April 2016 update of RDA.

RDA Toolkit is also adding policy statements from the Kungliga biblioteket (National Library of Sweden); these statements appear in the Resources tab under the title, Kungliga biblioteket Svensk Praxis (KB SP). The policy statements are in Swedish but link to the English version of RDA. The policy statements are accessible from the RDA instructions through a clickable icon. The icon is a yellow rectangle with a blue border and the letters KB SP in blue font.

The synchronization of the Toolkit and the Registry that began in August 2016 continues in the April release with the extension of the synchronization to value vocabularies that appear within instructions. This development is part of the first phase of the larger RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign Project.

Fixes

A number of typographical and site errors will be fixed.
