On Thursday, August 16, a small update was made to the RDA Toolkit beta site. In addition to fixed links, corrected typos and other minor changes to the text, the update also included several significant changes to the site display and functionality. Here some of the key changes.
The publishers of RDA Toolkit and the RDA Steering Committee have been closely monitoring feedback on the new RDA Toolkit beta site. Based on comments provided via the online form, public forums, and various discussion lists, it has become clear that the absence of instruction numbers is challenging for some users, especially those involved in cataloging training and education.
The new beta Toolkit includes some significant differences in how the instructions are organized and arranged. Some may have trouble locating where some instructions have moved to.
We have heard from some users that examples have been few and far between. Because the RDA text is still a work in progress on the beta site, it has been difficult to write examples. When the 3R Project is complete we expect there to be many more examples in the new Toolkit as compared to the original one.
At the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans in June, the members of the RDA Steering Committee and friends organized a day-long event called "A Practical Introduction to the New RDA Toolkit". If you missed the event, you can still learn a thing or two about the new RDA Toolkit through slides and video from the event, all linked below.
The Copyright Holders of RDA are pleased to confirm that an agreement has been reached with Biblioteca Alexandrina for an Arabic translation of RDA. The translation will appear on RDA Toolkit following the conclusion of the 3R Project.
Watch a demo of the RDA Toolkit beta site by James Hennelly, director of RDA Toolkit. For a fullscreen version of the demo click here.
The beta site marks an important milestone in the progress of the 3R Project, but it does not represent the completion of the 3R Project.
