Members of the North American RDA Committee (NARDAC) and of the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) provided a live update on the continuing evolution of RDA (Resource Description and Access) as an international standard for cataloging. Speakers include Robert Maxwell, Thomas Brenndorfer, Kathy Glennan, Melanie Polutta, Clara Liao, James Hennelly, and Stephen Hearn. Topics included the review process at RSC, recent and upcoming RDA proposals, development of content for RDA's Community Resources, the server migration for RDA Toolkit, describing collections in RDA with an update on NARDAC's curator of work proposal, and looking beyond mapping toward combining element vocabularies.

Translating RDA: a Discussion of the Opportunities and Challenges of an International Cataloging Standard (FREE)

Monday, September 20, 2021, 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM CDT

This webinar featured four presentations covering a wide range of topics that concern the international RDA community, among them: How decisions to translate RDA are made, an overview of the translation process, partial translations vs. full translations, generating support for translations, RDA teaching and training after translation, updates on RDA Toolkit translations in development, and the specific experiences of translating RDA in Arabic, Finnish and French. Speakers included ALA Digital Reference Director James Hennelly, and RDA translators Rania Osman, Daniel Paradis and Marja-Liisa Seppälä; the translators participated in a Q&A moderated by James Hennelly, before opening the floor to audience questions.
