Wider Community Engagement Officer appointed

The RDA Steering Committee is pleased to announce that Charlene Chou will succeed Ebe Kartus as the Wider Community Engagement Officer (WCEO) on the RSC. Charlene will begin as the WCEO-Elect on September 1, 2021 with a four-month training period that overlaps with Ebe’s term. Charlene will then take full responsibility in January 2022, serving a two-year term.

Charlene is the Head of Knowledge Access Department at the New York University Libraries, managing cataloging and metadata services. She has been actively engaged in RDA testing, training and rule revisions in the wider community since 2010. In addition to serving on various committees of the American Library Association/Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, the Council on East Asian Libraries, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, she has committed to do pilot projects, teaching and research on linked data (e.g. BIBFRAME, Sinopia and Share-VDE). Her research interests lie primarily in the area of the discovery of multilingual resources, identity management/controlled vocabularies, artificial intelligence/natural language processing tools for subject indexing, digital scholarship and inclusive metadata.
