RSC Meetings and Outreach in 2017

RSC Meetings and Outreach in 2017

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) will meet twice in 2017.

The first meeting will take place on May 17-19 2017 in Chicago, USA, at ALA Headquarters.

The second meeting will take place in Madrid, Spain, at Biblioteca Nacional de España. Dates for the three-day meeting in October or early November 2017 will be announced in due course.

The main item on the agenda at both meetings will be the development of the content of RDA Toolkit during the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign (3R) Project, leading to the release of the new design in April 2018.

Chairs of RSC working groups have been invited to participate in both meetings as experts in RDA. This augmentation of the RSC, "RSC+", will be actively engaged in the 3R Project during 2017. The focuses of the working groups are areas where the IFLA Library Reference Model and the opportunities for restructuring the Toolkit will have the greatest impact on the content of RDA. This arrangement is part of the RDA governance transition to greater involvement of the working groups, and will be reviewed at the end of the year.

The meetings are all executive sessions and are not open to observers. The RSC suspended the submission of proposals for community discussion during 2017 to allow it to focus on the project.

RSC+ looks forward to discussions with colleagues at the outreach events for local RDA communities associated with each meeting. The Chicago event is scheduled for May 16, 2017; details will be announced in due course. The Madrid events will include a meeting of translators of RDA.

These events will be part of a series of presentations, workshops, forums, and other RDA outreach activities throughout 2017. These include the two conferences of the American Library Association in Atlanta and Chicago, the EURIG seminar in Florence, Italy, and the IFLA annual conference in Wrocław, Poland.

The EURIG Open Seminar on “RDA in Europe and in Italy: a reality and a challenge” will take place at the University of Florence, Aula Magna, on 8 May 2017.

The series begins in Atlanta, USA, with the RDA Forum at ALA Midwinter on January 21, 10:30-11:30am, followed by the RDA Tech Forum on January 23, 1:00-2:30pm.
