RSC Governance and Meeting

RSC Governance and Meeting

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) has moved forward in its implementation of the governance model announced by the RDA Board in 2015.

The Oceania region has formed the Oceania RDA Committee (ORDAC) as the official body to represent the region on the RSC. Terms of reference were drafted and accepted by the RDA Board at their February 2018 meeting. The group has announced that Catherine Amey of the National Library of New Zealand will be the RSC representative and Melissa Parent of State Library Victoria (Australia) will be the backup representative. Amelia McKenzie of the National Library of Australia represents the region on the RDA Board. More information about ORDAC will be forthcoming on the RDA regions area of the RSC website.

The North America region has formed the North American RDA Committee (NARDAC) as the official body to represent the region on the RSC. Terms of reference were drafted and accepted by the RDA Board at their February 2018 meeting. The group has announced that Thomas Brenndorfer of Guelph Public Library will be the RSC representative and Kate James of the Library of Congress will be the backup representative. Beacher Wiggins of the Library of Congress represents the region on the RDA Board. More information about NARDAC will be forthcoming on the RDA regions area of the RSC website.

The RSC is delighted to welcome Catherine and Thomas to the committee. We are also very pleased that William Leonard of Libraries and Archives Canada and David Reser of Library of Congress will remain on the committee in co-opted (unfilled) positions from regions that have not yet implemented RDA; as RDA continues to be developed, their expertise and experience will enhance the work of the committee. Kathy Glennan of the University of Maryland, College Park (USA) will also fill a co-opted position because of her role as RSC Chair-Elect. Ebe Kartus of the University of New England (Australia) will remain on the RSC in her role as Wider Community Engagement Officer.

The RSC has accepted an invitation from McGill University in Montréal, Canada to hold its meeting there October 22-26, 2018. While plans are still being developed, following in the tradition of recent RSC meetings, it is likely that there will be a public outreach event on Monday, October 22. The meeting agenda will likely focus on further developments in RDA content (known changes unable to be made before the publication deadline) and on reviewing the administrative processes for the committee's work under the new governance structure and in the new Toolkit environment. Observers will be welcome at the public parts of the agenda. Those interested in attending should contact the RSC Secretary to reserve a place.
