Call for Participation: Music Working Group

The RSC has always recognised Music cataloguing as a specialism that is actively involved in the development of RDA. Now that we have capacity to establish Advisory Working Groups, which consider issues that require longer than the usual 2 years +1 year extension of Task and Finish Working Groups, RSC Chair Renate Behrens (pictured), is very pleased to issue a call for participation from music cataloguers and documentation specialists.

The Music Libraries Association already publishes its Best Practices withing the RDA Toolkit and we want to make it clear that the Music Working Group aims to include experts from institutions that use MLA Best Practices and institutions that do not. As Chris Holden, Chair of the IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres) Cataloguing and Metadata Section as well as the Chair of the RSC Technical Working Group, has put it, "Music is a worldwide discipline". The RSC Music Working Group is intended to provide a forum and a structure for experts to discuss the development of RDA as it pertains to the documentation of music.

To that end, the RSC has established a charge document (RSC/Chair/2025/14) and would like to hear from colleagues interested in volunteering to join the Music Working Group.

If you are interested in volunteering yourself or suggesting a colleague with relevant expertise, please contact the RSC Chair, Renate Behrens in the first instance: RSCchair@rdatoolkit.org
