Proposal to revise the element hierarchy for appellations of work groups

The RSC would like to thank its Technical Working Group for its proposal to revise the element hierarchy for appellations of work groups. RSC/TechnicalWG/2024/1 has been published today on the RSC website and archived (with stable URI) to ALAIR.

As the Technical Working Group points out in the proposal abstract, analysis of the hierarchy of the work group appellation elements with a domain of Work revealed inconsistencies when compared to the hierarchy of their inverses in Nomen. This proposal makes changes to the hierarchy of the work group appellation elements with a domain of Work and revises the definitions of Work: authorized access point for work group and its inverse for consistency and clarity.

RSC Chair Renate Behrens thanks the Technical Working Group for their expertise and time spent in working on this proposal, which will be discussed in the Public Session of the RSC's April Meeting, on 16 April, 9-11pm CEST*. RSC Regional Representatives Charlotte Christensen, Ahava Cohen and Robert Maxwell will be actively consulting the RDA cataloguing communities in Oceania, Europe and North America. RSC Wider Community Engagement Officer Charlene Chou will be happy to hear the views of any RDA cataloguers outside these regions. Contact details are available on the RSC members page.

*The RSC Secretary will be sending out a call for observers closer to the time. If you would like to be added to her mailing list before then, please email RSCsecretary@rdatoolkit.org
