RDA Toolkit Release - April 11, 2017

A new release of RDA Toolkit will be published on April 11, 2017. When there is a new release for RDA Toolkit, it is typically made on the second Tuesday of the month. Releases typically contain changes to content and metadata, enhancements to RDA Toolkit functionality, and fixes to existing bugs. National Archive Adopting RDA

Late last year the National Archive of the United States announced that it would adopt RDA as its standard for authority records. In a blog post dated December 20, 2016, David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, describes the process that led the Archive to t adopt RDA and states that the decision is "yet another step toward the Open Government goals of transparency, participation and collaboration, by joining the wider archival community" in adopting RDA for authority records.

ALCTS presents: Cataloging, Gender, and RDA Rule 9.7

Amber Billey, Metadata Librarian at Columbia University Libraries, will lead a discussion on Wednesday, 3/15 at 2:00 PM (Eastern) on the example of RDA rule 9.7. A rule that, if recorded, required gender to be fixed in RDA-compliant name authority records until a group of catalogers fought to make it optional. Amber is Chair of the ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services Interest Group. She is the Co-Chair of the PCC BIBFRAME Task Group, and serves on the PCC NACO Task Group on Identity Management.
