RDA Toolkit Pricing

RDA Toolkit Announces Price Change Effective January 1, 2014

Effective January 1, 2014 RDA Toolkit will be extending a new pricing model as shown below. This change makes introducing and implementing RDA: Resource Description Access more accessible for small cataloging departments, more fairly distributing the cost across all sizes of institutions. This simplified pricing model with solo and one-user site subscriptions combined into one option makes it easier to subscribe and renew. The price chart below reflects cost per user.

Number of Users Cost Per User
  USD CAD GBP EUR AUS
1 $180 $213 £ 142 € 161 $220
2 to 4 $171 $203 £ 137 € 154 $210
5 to 9 $167 $199 £ 134 € 151 $206
10 to 14 $162 $194 £ 131 € 147 $200

LIS Programs

Now that RDA is implemented and is standard curriculum in cataloging courses, we are offering a 50% discount to LIS programs for instructors and students based on the number of users needed per school year. The options to purchase RDA Print or the RDA eBook will still be available.

2 users = $171 per user x 2 = $342
5 users = $167 per user x 5 = $835

Consortia and Group Subscriptions

In working with consortia and central purchasing groups, we have found that there are so many different models and requirements that there is no one pricing model we can apply. We are applying the same formulas where requirements are similar, and will work with each group to meet their specific needs, volume, purchasing, accounting, and other systems and procedures. Overall, pricing will be fairly applied based on the specific criteria each consortium or group presents.

If you are interested in subscription pricing for consortia or other centralized purchasing groups, please contact us at rdatoolkit@ala.org with "Consortium" or "Group purchase" in the subject line and provide some basic information about your group. The more answers to these questions you can include, the more efficiently we will be able to serve you. RDA Toolkit staff will follow up with you on receipt of your message.

Subscription Agencies, Distributors, Booksellers

If you are a subscription agency, distributor, or bookseller, please contact us at rdatoolkit@ala.org and identify your type of business in the subject line. RDA Toolkit staff will follow up with you on receipt of your message.

RDA Print

You will find information on the full-text loose-leaf print versions of RDA: Resource Description and Access and RDA: Element Set View and how to purchase from different countries here. (The process for purchasing RDA print products is similar to AACR2—available directly from each Co-Publisher, ALA, CLA, and CILIP, as well as through various retailers, wholesalers, and distributors.)

While most users agree the preferred way to interact with RDA is online via the RDA Toolkit, the Co-Publishers are offering the full text of RDA in print (including an index) as well as online, to help ensure that RDA reaches the widest possible audience. In addition to these print items in English, the Co-Publishers will work with publishing partners to distribute translations of them to supplement translations offered in the RDA Toolkit online.

Training and Classroom Access

To allow for training of future and current catalogers and other metadata professionals who need to become familiar with RDA, we are offering access to RDA Toolkit at special pricing. The institution must purchase a subscription that matches its ongoing cataloging needs and then inform RDA Toolkit staff via the RDA Toolkit Support Center of the number of additional users needed for the given training day or class period. RDA Toolkit access will be granted for that period to the additional users at a 50% discount. If an institution does not yet subscribe, but wants access for LIS or other training, the site license base price of $180 USD (or the equivalent if purchased in another currency) will apply.
