Countdown Clock for Original RDA Toolkit Set for May 2026

The RDA Board in consultation with the Copyright Holders of RDA have determined that a hard date for the removal of the original RDA Toolkit website is needed. This determination was made against a backdrop of giving user communities plenty of time for planning in their transition to official RDA. The Board plans to begin a countdown clock in May 2026 (specific date still to be determined), with the removal of the original Toolkit taking place a year later—May 2027. This plan was presented to the RDA Steering Committee last week, and the RSC fully supported this decision.

The RDA Board, an international group of library professionals, is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the development of RDA and ensuring good governance of the project. They also have a role to play in raising the profile of RDA in their region. The RDA Board will hold it's annual meeting in San Diego on June 26 and 27, and they will stay for a preconference event at the ALA Annual Conference (June 27- July 2).

The RDA Board, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the development of RDA, will meet next month in London. In anticipation of the April meeting the Board recently announced the current appointments for the April meeting. Attendees will include new American Library Association representative Keri Cascio and Latin American representative Angela Quiroz Ubierna. Last month the Committee of Principles affirmed their commitment to the internationalization of the RDA standard and stated that a transition plan for the new governance structure prior to the IFLA conference this month. In fulfillment of this task the Committee has released Transition timescales for RDA Governance.

The Committee of Principals for RDA has issued the following statement dated 29 May 2015: RDA is a package of data elements, guidelines, and instructions for creating library and cultural heritage resource metadata that are well-formed according to international models for user-focussed linked data applications. RDA has always been a continually evolving standard that aims to reflect the requirements of the cataloguing, metadata and description community.
